General Description.
Each unit has ten yellow Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) on 3 foot wires, a pattern selection switch, an on / off switch and a photocell that turns the unit on at dusk.

The unit  may be used outdoors if the controller box is protected from moisture.  ( A baggie and tie wrap may be all that's needed, just make sure the open end of the bag is down. ) The LEDs are sealed to make them rain resistant, but don't submerge them.

The basic firefly mode blinks the  LEDs to imitate real fireflies. A push button allows selection of additional light patterns.
Operating instructions
To run the firefly pattern simply turn the power switch on. The unit will run the firefly pattern for about an hour and then turn off.

After turning off the photocell looks for light followed by dark and turns the unit on when it sees dusk. The lights will then run for about an hour. Turning bright room lights on for a few seconds and then off will start the lights flashing again.

To switch to the other light patterns:
Hold the program button until all LEDs light and release it. The unit will light just one LED to indicate which pattern is selected and then run that pattern. To step to another light pattern push and hold the button until the desired LED lights.

Batteries drain is very small when the lights are off so there is usually no need to switch the unit off. The unit will wake back up in the same program when the  program button is pushed or the photocell sees dusk. Release the button as soon as the unit wakes up so it won't step into the next light pattern. Switching the power switch off for several seconds will reset to the firefly mode.

Battery Life
The unit uses 2 AA batteries and employs special current saving design to provide long battery life. Expected battery life varies from months in patterns where few lights are rarely on to weeks at 4 hours a day in patterns like five chase and waterfall where most lights are on most the time. We have seen a battery life of one year for the firefly pattern used for an hour every evening, though the lights were quite dim when it finally gave up. Battery life will vary with temperature, and the type of battery used. This is a low drain device and will work with any AA battery. Alkalines work longest. Titaniums work fine but probably will give no extra life in this low drain device, so save your money. Remember dead and old batteries often leak so we recommend a good name brand and changing them before that happens.

If you have an unusual application that uses most lights  12 or 24 hours a day battery life will be much shorter  and you may wish to contact us for a model that can run off an AC powered battery eliminator.
